Managing Neck Pain Through Chiropractic Care

Neck  pain is a symptom characterized by localized pain from the base of the skull to shoulders. Neck pain is common symptom experienced in society. The neck comprised of vertebrae that originates from the skull and runs through to the upper torso. A network of nerves joints, bones, and muscle all directed by the brain and spinal cord. Disc lay between the vertebrae and act as shock absorbers to allow strength stability and move ability.

Neck pain is common among adults, but it can occur at any age, 15% adults reported experiencing neck pain or symptoms that last at least one full day. Those who have experienced neck pain for a long period of time can tell you it has a major effect on your daily life and is normally accompanied by other symptoms such as headaches and migraines.

What causes neck pain?

While there are several causes of neck pain, most commonly is strains and sprains from the supporting structures of the neck (muscles and ligaments). A strain is occurs when a muscle or tendon has been overused for an extended period of time.  Similarly a sprain is when a ligament has been overused. each one of structures trigger an inflammatory response causing  irritation of the nerves of the surrounding area resulting in the pain you experience.

Whiplash Injury

When head and neck are forced forward and backwards or vice versa immediately with a great deal of force, the soft tissue structures (Muscles and Ligaments) can be severely damaged or ruptured.  Such types of injury are experienced commonly in car accidents (rear end collision) or on the sports field such as a tackle in rugby.

Cervical osteoarthritis

Cartilage in the facet joint deteriorates with time which leads to osteoarthritis changes in the joint.  Instead of having the facet joint glide and move smoothly as intended. Formation of bone spurs may cause bone grinding on bone. Changes in the joint structure may lead to inflammation causing irritation of the nerves.3

Poor Posture

Posture is one of the most common causes of neck pain. Either at home or work poor posture can lead to biomechanical changes of the spine to adapt to your daily routine.  Over a long period of time the muscles and ligaments have to work harder, therefore resulting in neck pain or other symptoms like text neck( forward movement of the head due to prolonged hours looking down at the phone, while messaging)

How Can ChiroMotion Help?

At ChiroMotion, our experienced chiropractors focus on the relationship between the brain and body. This intermit relationship controls every aspect of your body. From waking you up to grabbing that first cup of coffee in the morning all the way to when it’s time to wine down for the night.  This relationship is heavily dependant on the connection from the brain to the spine. Without the spine the messages from the brain won’t be able to connect to body. Like your home wifi router and internet.  If the connection isn’t strong, it severely impairs your ability to fully access the internet.

What does this mean in your body? Well just like the wifi router and internet, if the connection is disturbed or there is interference between the signals! If the brain doesn’t know what’s happening in the body it will contract the muscle to protect itself. This protection mechanism is perceived as pain.

Our chiropractors analyze spine to locate these areas of nervous interference; correct them so that your body has the ability to fully function at its best ability and relieving the source of your lower back pain so you can continue enriching your lifestyle.
